Company History

KEE was originally formed as a family run business called KEANE PLASTICS in 1955. As the business grew the company name was changed to KLARGESTER. We pioneered the development of many industry ‘firsts’ including the Glassfibre Reinforced Polyester (GRP) Septic Tank in 1965, and the first commercially-available packaged Sewage Treatment Plant incorporating the Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC), manufactured in plastics in 1972.

Social Changes in the 1980’s led to increased usage of cleaning detergents and chemicals in hotels, hospitals, restaurants and most notably in domestic households.

As a company, we became very concerned at their possible detrimental effect on small scale sewage and wastewater treatment systems and financed a major Research and Development programme in 1989. Bench top studies, and three years of field trials in the UK and Norway led to the design and development of the ‘Managed Flow’ concept. This new development in technology enabled the wastewater flow rate to be ‘controlled’ through the treatment process to ensure that any peak flows during the day did not negatively impact on the treatment process and the quality of wastewater discharge.
